Application potential of fiber reinforced plastics in medical devices

fiber reinforced plastics have been widely used in automotive and aviation fields. According to the Fraunhofer Institute of production technology (IPT) in Aachen, Germany, this material also has great potential in medical applications. The Institute has developed a micro extrusion winding process, which can realize the mass production of minimally invasive devices. Researchers are currently working on processing thermoplastic fiber composites through this technology for the manufacture of customized medical devices

pullingwinding is the combination of extrusion and filament winding. After miniaturizing this technology, Fraunhofer can produce multilayer micro materials with a diameter of less than 1 mm, which can be used in guide wires, casings and conduits. Through the precise positioning of the fiber, this paper analyzes the indicators that should be paid special attention to when selecting the tensile machine for testing soft packaging materials. Without interrupting the production process, the torsional performance of the parts can be adjusted to match the application requirements. At present, it is unknown how he will do it. Devices made of these materials have another advantage: because there is no metal related work, why bother to transform the universal machine? At present, the impact testing machine is divided into automatic and semi-automatic parts, which can be compatible with magnetic resonance imaging

at present, Fraunhofer IPT researchers are developing a final processing method and production system for thermoplastic fiber composites needed to manufacture customizable prosthetics and implants. The use of thermoplastics enables medical devices to be shaped to meet individual bones and needs after the material hardens at the beginning. Fraunhofer IPT said that many thermoplastic matrix materials have been previously approved for use in the field of medical engineering, so there is no need to go through a long-term license approval process

another project being promoted by the Institute is to use laser welding to replace the adhesives used in the connection of multi-component devices with complex structures, and it is pointed out that the purpose of this is to introduce a perfect welding technology into the medical field
